No single approach. Generally tutors are needed because the school method isn't working for them, or isn't enough. I try to identify the problem and aim to fix it so that student becomes independent and no longer needs a tutor again. So I try to tailor my approach to the students ... and I generally have the patience and character and insight to be able to do just that. My family emigrated to the UK two generations ago.
