Course Description

Kalamkari is a type of fabric art work either hand painted or block printed. Origins of this art can be traced back to India and Iran. The name “Kalamkari’ comes from the Persian term for Pen (Kalam) and Craftsmanship (Kari). In Indian there are two distinct styles of Kalamkari- the Srikalahasti Style and the Machilipatnam Style. The Srikalahasti style is completely hand worked whereas the Macilipatnam style has Persian influences due to Mughal patronage of the art.

In this course the learner will learn the technique of making the Kalam using traditional materials. Learners will be familiarized with the various steps used in traditional Kalamkari painting.
