I recently completed a zero to hero excel course with Gerard, the course was excellent,,. I was thought everything from the very basics up to visual basic for applications. It is crazy that I can now write my own excel funnctions. This is not an easy task but it is the hardest thing to do in excel and I can actually do it. Last year my son sat the for chemistry course in october. He needed to get a high grade for his university placement. Sitting this course was the best thing he could have done. Tuition during lockdown last year was a concern for us but when we started using this team of tutors our concenrs diminised. Initially we would still have prefereed tuition in our home but as time went by we realised our children were far more engaged in their tuition lessons than they were in thier school lessons. On a recommendation we completed the memory gym course yesterday and I have to say it was mind blowing. 1) How do I plan my lessons? My lessons are planned according to the syllabus of the student's school. Topics are then subdivided into what I feel would be best met in the length of lesson and the prior knowledge the student currently has. I tend to have at least two lesson objectives and two respective outcomes for the student to have achieved by the end of the session. I'm not confined to a lesson plan as students can ask many questions (and rightly so) and sometimes, the lesson may have to take a turn in order to address a student's misconception. I am very flexible in my teaching methods. Once I can see that a misconception is clarified, I proceed with the main body of the session. This will involve a small snapshot of theory, illustrated with diagrams, texts and questioning. My questions are based on 'Blooms Taxonomy'. A scientifically proven way to enhance and engage curiosity across all subjects and well as an excellent way of developing a students' thought process e.g: what, how, why and explain. The session is then ended with a plenary. This is a means for me to assess a student's understanding of the session. I may issue extra home learning to further ensure that the student can apply what has been taught. However, I always keep in mind the home learning that has already been set by the student’s school. 2) What makes my lessons one of a kind? All of my lessons are personalised and based around that student. This is achieved through having an initial introductory session so I can assess the student's prior knowledge and understanding. I also look to see how that student best take in and applies what is being taught. I have mini-plenaries throughout the body of a lesson. This means that I will stop to ask questions in order to assess the understanding as we go along. This is to check that the student is on track. My lessons are engaging, fun and interesting. I can only state that based on the feedback that's been given to me. I can see when a student is disengaged, uninterested and bored. Having spent 15 years of teaching, making observations of colleagues for their performance management reviews etc, those things never go unnoticed by a teacher; so I'm very quick to address these things. - The student will be in a calm, nurturing and supportive environment and hopefully feel safe to ask questions without feeling pressured or anxious.
