Tutor's Profile

I am an elementary teacher with seven years of experience. I hold B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education with a certification in TESOL. Over the past seven years, I have tutored elementary and middle school aged children in the subjects of Reading, Math, Science and ESL. I have also tutored high school aged students in preparation for collegiate based tests such as the ACT and SAT.

While tutoring, I utilise many strategies that I implement as a teacher in my own classroom. Some of the initial yet crucial responsibilities are to understand the parent's goals for tutoring, to discover the child's interests, and to determine the child's ability level. Then I am able to design lessons not only geared to the child's ability but also to his or her interests so they are engaged and motivated during tutoring. I use research-based methods and materials, such as phonics instruction, graphic organisers, math manipulatives, testing strategies, etc. My goal is to help each child improve their abilities and to instil a love of learning.
