Approach:
I am a strong believer in Vygotsky’s social constructivist theory that knowledge is collectively constructed as opposed to individual constructivism. Learning with assistance or instruction is a normal feature of human development and more emphasis is laid on my role as a teacher during the process of learning. I focus the Zone of Proximal Development of my students as I use Bruner’s scaffolding and contingent teaching to support and assist them learn new content. I asses my learners entry levels at the beginning; use the information to develop new target for learning; take the student through a well-designed learning experience as I continue monitoring while contingently scaffolding, being carefully to only offer support when and where it’s needed otherwise let the student explore independently. I have also had lots of takeaways from other learning theories that I believe will transform me into a unique instructor. |
