My teaching experience dates back to 2-3 years ago where I taught high school and secondary students (Literature and English Language). My style of teaching takes more of a blended approach as the students specific interests can be coined into the teaching of some of the concepts. Having acquired a BA in English and Communication as well as a PGCE in English and History, I began my teaching journey in January 2016 when I joined Littlerock International School, as an English and Literature teacher for the secondary and high school students and as an English teacher for the primary classes (Grade 4 – 7). Since the school was still in its grassroots, I had to meticulously balance the art of teaching academically diverse students and that of being the teacher-in-charge of secondary and high school. Joining Dubai British School Jumeirah Park (DBSJP) in October 2017 gave me an opportunity to further my scope of diversification in teaching. As a cover teacher it has offered me the chance to enhance my teaching, incorporating various perspectives from the various teachers and students that I work with. The opportunity to teach students and working with them using different pedagogical approaches always comes with insurmountable joy. Alongside my teaching at DBSJP from Dec 2017, I also taught students online through Education First for almost a year. Concepts taught were mostly for first timers or for students looking to revise or improve their English, inclusive of those preparing for IELTS tests. Looking at teaching as a whole, I believe in the concept behind the flipped classroom model of teaching. Each student has ideas and facts they already know of or can research on and bring to the table; hence making their learning richer. Learning is not all about receiving information but it’s also about enhancing the information one has and remodelling it for further application. A student is first a human before they are a learner, a broken spirit can hinder one’s learning process and so a pleasant learning environment is core to every teaching session of mine. I believe in unlearning to learn and thus create a palatable pedagogy for students through the creativity and exposure within the teaching experience. I look forward to hearing from you and help you in your learning journey.
