Google Adwords! Certainly not a topic that would make for an animated conversation at a dinner table, unless, of course, you had more than a few geeks present!
Well, as strange as it may seem, the foregoing may no longer be a true statement. As more and more previously “Cybershy” entrepreneurs are joining the ranks of such Internet mainstays as E-bay, Amazon and the like, it is likely that more than one person would have heard of, or even patronized Google’s most lucrative service, a form of content-based advertising namely Google AdWords. How does Google AdWords work exactly and why is this Google’s biggest income earner?
Well, over the years, advertisers have come to appreciate that there’s no better place to advertise a product than when you notice someone looking for it, or for something similar. Google’s AdWords are simply an online equivalent of this scenario. When a person is searching for something on Google, the words they use could indicate their possible interest in a product that could be searched for by the keywords being used in the search. As we know Google is famous for being industrious, here too they decided to cash in on this scheme. They did so by offering to beam certain advertisements every time certain words, decided by the advertiser are typed in their search engine.
As you can imagine there are many entrepreneurs around the world that have realised the potential advertising benefits of this innovative method of advertising, so much so that in 2010 alone Google pocketed US$28 billion through this method of advertising, as advertisement are charged per click. Also, your advertisements can be set to display first if you are willing to spend a few dollars more. There are a few technical terms associated with this method of advertising, but in this article, we have decided to save you from all that jargon and focused only on the essential information.
Google is also providing this AdWords scheme for everyone who has a nice website or a blog. There are certain conditions to fulfil for a website or blog for availing this facility of Google Adsense. These conditions normally focus on the quality of the content and the amount of it present on the page.
It is also directly linked with the amount of traffic that one has on its website. Traffic is something which indicates the number of people who would have gone through the ad Google was running on your page. High traffic and more clicks on the Google ads would mean more payments for your website or blog from Google.
So next time someone mentions Google AdWords, there should not be any need for you to feel left out in the conversation. In fact, you might even find ways to put this technological innovation to a profitable use.
